Imaginations continues its work in the community of El Progreso at 2nd Medical Campaign

On July 26, volunteers and staff put on Imaginations’ second medical campaign in the community.  From the very beginning, the community’s gratitude and hospitality were evident.  As volunteers passed out flyers the week before, members of the community recognized our staff and approached us to ask for information.  We feel that by forming a long-term relationship, we will be able to have a more long-lasting and real impact on this community.

Over 90 patients were attended at this second campaign in El Progreso, the majority of which were patients we had not seen before.  Imaginations volunteers organized the campaign and helped set up all materials.  They then interviewed patients and took their patient histories and vital signs before presenting the patients to the doctors working at the medical campaign.

After seeing the doctor, patients who needed medication were given their medicine free of charge under the supervision of medical staff.  Hot chocolate and sweet bread were served to the patients as they waited to warm up the chilly winter day, and talks about hygiene and nutrition were given by nurses Angelica Garcia Rodriguez and Aida Castillo Benguer as patients waited to see the doctors.  Those who answered questions about what they'd learned had the chance to win a basket of nutritious foods!

The campaign was scheduled from 2-6pm, but volunteers stayed until almost 8pm to finish attending all of the patients present.  Thanks to the doctors, nurses and volunteers who offered their time and services freely in support of this community!

We hope to continue to have a positive impact on this community and are planning a Christmas event for the children of the area in December to brighten up their holiday season with toys collected from a fall toy drive and Christmas sweets!  We also plan to continue to serve the community through free medical attention with another medical campaign scheduled for early January.
